Accessible publishing workflows
One accessible document is not enough. The workflow that produces thousands of them has to be accessible: templates, rules for authors, conversions and checks before sending. We set it up so that accessible output is produced automatically.
Where barriers arise
Most inaccessible documents are not the result of bad intentions but of a bad template. An invoice generated from XML through XSLT with no tagging, a bank statement with no heading structure, an email made up of images, an InDesign brochure exported without a reading order: each of these outputs is repeated thousands of times a month. The European Accessibility Act also explicitly requires accessible electronic invoices, contract terms and support information.
What we do
- Accessible templates. We create or adapt templates for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, InDesign and EPUB so that their output meets PDF/UA, EPUB Accessibility 1.1 and chapter 10 of EN 301 549: styles, heading structure, tables with header cells, alternative text, language, reading order, contrast and typefaces.
- Tailored publishing rules. We write concise rules for the authors, designers and editors in your environment, with examples from your own documents, not a generic manual.
- Assessment of existing templates. We check your templates for emails, invoices, statements, contracts and reports and hand over a list of changes in order of impact.
- Verification of the whole workflow. We follow the path of a document from the source data through conversion (XML, XSLT, PDF generators) to archiving and sending, and find the point where accessibility is lost.
What you get
- Fixed or new templates with documentation on how to use them.
- Publishing rules in a form your people will actually open: a short document or an internal web page.
- A workflow verification report with a checklist for pre-publication checks.
- On request, training for document creators, run directly on your own templates.
